ART ESCAPE

A 6-day plein air painting experience across five luminous locations of Portugal’s West Algarve.
This is not just a course – it’s a creative escape for those who love watercolor, fresh air, and discovery.

West Algarve Art Escape
Barlavento em Aguarela
October 11 – 16, 2026

Starting in Faro, we move through the West Algarve day by day, exploring shifting light, textures, and atmospheres — from Silves to the forests of Monchique, the marina and cliffs of Lagos, and finally to the “end of the world” at Cabo de São Vicente in Sagres.

Faro – Silves – Monchique – Lagos – Sagres.

On this journey, six intensive painting sessions await you — under the guidance of EUGEN CHISNICEAN.

Eugen Chisnicean is an internationally respected watercolour painter and teacher. Trained at the Academy of Arts in Chișinău, he has spent many years painting and teaching across Europe and beyond. His approach combines technical precision with bold, expressive freedom, making his workshops both demanding and deeply inspiring. He brings a rare depth of experience — grounded in practice, sharpened by constant travel, and shaped by working directly from life.

Barlavento is the western region of the Algarve in southern Portugal, known for its dramatic coastline, rolling hills, and unspoiled natural landscapes. It is a key part of the West Algarve Art Escape (WAAE), offering ideal conditions for plein air painting and watercolour practice. The changing light, Atlantic breeze, and rich textures of nature make it a powerful destination for artists seeking immersive outdoor painting experiences.

From the red sandstone walls and Moorish heritage of Silves to Monchique’s green mountains and the rugged Atlantic cliffs of the coast, Barlavento unfolds as a landscape shaped by both history and nature. For painters, it is a place to slow down, observe deeply, and translate the landscape into watercolour through direct experience.
